My Sister's Reaper by Dorothy Dreyer

Review by Anniek

Zadie is a 16 year old girl who has a lot going on in her young life. Her mother is mentally ill and lives in a mental institution and her sister Mara is in a coma. Mara got hit by a bus and hasn't been conscious since. Zadie knows she has the power to makes things happen. She already experienced that in the past. When Zadie and her best friend, Naomi, see an opportunity to plan a date with the boys they have a crush on a dark plan takes form.

Zadie and Naomi plan on a magical gathering with the boys and they are determined to do everything possible to bring Mara back. When the time is there, Zadie is nervous but she does the unthinkable. Mara wakes up.

A miracle has happened but when Mara is back home things have changed. Someone is out to get her. The reaper's plan was to take Mara with him so he could feed on her and he has come back to stake his claim. Zadie knows she has to do everything she can to take him on and save her sister. She has a good teacher in the witch lady and her gorgeous grandson Chase. It turns out that Gavin, her now boyfriend, is a catalyst for her powers. To be the most powerful Vila she could be she needs them all.

My Sister's Reaper is remarkable. Dorothy Dreyer did an amazing job creating a haunting story. I admired Zadie so much. During all the scary things that were happening, and even when she had to take on death, she always stays strong. She has one thing in mind and that is the safety of her sister and of her mother one day. I was cheering for her to take the reaper on 'sending' her my own strength for the battle. In the end it all comes back to love. It always comes back to love. Wouldn't we all do everything in our power to keep our family and loved ones with us?

Everyone who is a fan of the Young Adult Paranormal genre must read this book. It is full of twists and turns and darkness. Just when you think you have figured it out something will happen on the next page that will keep you on the edge of your seat again. There's never a dull moment in this story.

I can only end my review with one more thing to say: Take your seat on this rollercoaster ride and enjoy.
