Review by Anniek

Cassie lives in New York. She always had a pretty safe and secure life which ends when her parents die in a car crash. After the accident Cassie pulls herself back from the world. Wanting to be alone, she breaks up with her fiancé Adrian. The only thing that she manages is to get up and go to work every day. While time passes she finds herself dating Peter. Cassie knows she doesn't love him and that the breakup will come sooner of later.

When Cassie is at work reports are coming in about a deadly virus that is spreading all over the world. She, her best friend Penny, James and her best friend Nelly are taking no chances and take the advice of the president to go inside your house and don't come out. Cassie's parents were survivalists. They had everything prepared for the end of the world. Before they can go to Cassie's apartment they need to pick up Penny's sister first. Leaving behind the world they knew the group goes out to their safehouse, Cassie's cabin in the woods.

This is the first zombie book I've read this year and my oh my it does not disappoint. This story really kept me on the edge of my seat. I'm a big fan of the zombie genre and I love it when a story like this one comes together.

Sarah Lyons Fleming kept to the basics with the zombies. They are slow, respond to noise, they want to eat the living and they are very deadly while they are in large groups. I'm glad that the author stayed with this and didn't make them some sort of space monsters. The characters are fantastic! Everyone deals with the apocalypse in a different way. I loved it how the characters slowly move from who they were to who they need to be to survive.

This story will deliver it all to you. It made me scared, had me laugh, it made me sad and the ending made me cry. This is a series I will absolutely keep following and reading.
