Review by Anniek:
Natalie is a professional photographer who lives in a house near the beach. She loves to walk on the beach in the early mornings to get the most amazing pictures. She sells her work to the local stores and has a private studio where she does photo shoots. After her parents died in a tragic accident Natalie became a millionaire. She is very happy living in a small town village with her best friend and roommate as an extended family.
One morning while photographing on the beach she is assaulted by Luke. Natalie thinks he is trying to rob her, but Luke thinks she is taking his picture. They have a brief argument and Natalie storms off angry. Luke is stunned that she did not recognize him. He used to be a famous actor and is now trying to live his life in a secluded area. He doesn't want or need the spotlights anymore and is perfectly happy to produce movies instead of being in front of the camera. He cannot believe that Natalie doesn't know who he is.
Luke has been burned in the past by a woman he wanted to marry. It turned out she only wanted him because of his fame and money. He has never let anyone in again but he can't shake the image of that very sassy photographer. Since they both live in the same small village Luke and Natalie are destined to see each other again. Luke needs to find back his confidence in people and Natalie never did 'the dating thing' at all. Will Luke and Natalie both be able to open up their hearts?
Kristen Proby does not disappoint in Come Away With Me. She created characters who can stand up to each other and who make the other want to be a better version of themselves. I loved the fact that Luke is a bit bossy and I equally loved the fact that Natalie is not a pushover. She absolutely stands up for herself and I admire that in her. This story is fast-paced and written with humor. I especially had to laugh about the scene where Luke and Natalie met. Come Away With Me is a book that I didn't want to put down.
Fabulous freebies are a great way to get to know new writers. You can check out if their books are something for you. This was the first book I have read by Kristen Proby but it absolutely will not be my last.
