Anniek's Top 15 of 2015

Anniek's books of 2015

When entering a new year I always tend to look back to the year before so I can count my blessings.

Even though 2016 started with a new journey for me, opening this blog with my amazing and sweet friend Suze, 2015 has been a good year also. I have found my passion in reviewing books and also for interviewing writers. My gorgeous son turned 2 and his development into an individual is amazing and hilarious. I learn so much from him.

The best lesson in 2015 was that I learned to look out for myself. Saying no when I really don't want to do something and setting boundaries. Old dreams resurfaced and made it into a good resolution for this year. The past year I have read so many books and got to know so many new writers that I'm very excited to present you my Top 15 of 2015. As you will see I didn't use any numbers because if it were up to me I would put them all on number one. I hope that my list gets you excited to read my absolute favorites from the past year.

Bound by Melody Anne

I instantly fell in love with this story. An addictive read. Couldn't put this one down

Quote from Bound: " I want you now. I want you always. I can't get enough of you."

The First Days van Rhiannon Frater

This book had me since the very first line. I think I was already bawling my eyes out on page one. This is a story that will stay with you for a very long time. I still think about this book regularly.

Quote from The First Days: “Tiny fingers. So small. So very, very small. The fingers pressed under the front door of her home were so very small. She couldn’t stop staring at those baby fingers straining frantically to reach her as she stood shivering on the porch.”

The Selection by Kiera Cass

A fairytale that feels like it was written centuries ago. This story will make you want to fall in love all over again.

Quote from The Selection: “I hope you find someone you can't live without.I really do. And I hope you never have to know what it's like to have to try and live without them.”

Summer of the Oak Moon by Laura Templeton

This story surprised me. It made me feel so many emotions. There was one song from Meghan Trainor that summarizes all my thoughts at once. It says: 'We are all born to be different. That is the one thing that makes us the same.'

Quote from Summer of the Oak Moon: "A black guy going to dinner with a lily-white girl like me was bound to raise eyebrows in Port Saint Clare, where civil rights laws were all well and good for city folks, but blacks dated blacks and whites dated whites and exceptions weren’t tolerated"

Called by Fire by Delwyn Jenkins

A magical rollercoaster that grabbed me and didn't let go until the very last lines.

Quote from Called by Fire: "I don't know how we'll accomplish it, but we will. I need you with me, all the time."

The Aubrey Rules by Aven Ellis

Aven Ellis will put a smile on your face with this very sweet and romantic love story. It doesn't get much sweeter than this.

Some of the Aubrey Rules to Live By:

*If I’m going to indulge in French fries, I must add extra time to the treadmill the next day.
*Always keep your work and private life separate.
*Being open to new experiences will never involve eating kale.
*Never, ever date a professional athlete.

The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason

Feisty and deadly vampire hunter by night, young debutant by day. Twists and Turns, Love and Loss, Fight and Peace, This story will deliver it all.

Quote from The Rest Falls Away: “ With more malice than that of Judas Iscariot. Once a proud name, now it is spit upon, said with hatred and venom. Judas is gone, but Lilith roams the earth, and she builds her army of vampires. She intends to rule the world; her strength is always our weakness. It is our task, our legacy, to keep Lilith and her minions at bay.”

Taking on the Dead by Annie Walls

Amazon USA Amazon UK

A heart gripping story of the strong and smart heroine Kansas. She is one badass Zombie Fighter. One of my absolute favorites in the Zombie Genre.

Quote from Taking on the Dead: “ My neighbors have long since left, or they are dead. Some I killed. It was either kill or be eaten alive, which is not on my top-ten list of ways to die.”

Under the Stars by Linn B. Halton

Amazon USA Amazon UK

Chaos among the stars. Beautiful story about pursuing your dreams even if life gives you lemons.

Quote from Under the Stars: “ It’s not that I can’t make a decision; it’s more that I’m scared of making the wrong decision.”

Nobody's Goddess by Amy McNulty

Amazon USA Amazon UK

What would the world be like if it would be in the hands of females only? Women who make all the decisions and men only here to love them. A very amazing story about a curse that turned the way of loving upside down.

Quote from Nobody's Goddess: "I can love where I will, even where love will never find me. And I am forced against my will, to love just the same."

Infinite Completion by Michelle Dennis

A heart wrenching beautiful love story. This is one for the hopeless romance lovers amongst us.

Quote from Infinite Completion: "But, his name, wrapped up in his perfect smile sends my heart skipping back through the tulip fields and the aroma of damp leather fills my lungs."

When you're Ready by J.L. Berg

How can you ever love again when you have lost the love of your life? The answer is: When you're ready.

Quote from When you're ready: “Clare, this…what we’re doing? It has to be all or nothing. And I want all of you. When you cry, I want to be the one holding you. No matter the reason. So please, let me hold you.”

Dance until Dawn by Berni Stevens

A Vampire who is so much in love with this beautiful woman that he cannot think about eternity without her.

Quote from Dance until Dawn: "I looked up into his own captivating eyes. Can I mesmerize you? 'Always."

I Wish For You by Camilla Isley

A magical love story with your own genie in a box. What would you do if you have five wishes that could change your life forever?

Quote from I wish for you: “...your heart spoke for you. You gave up everything for me.”

Tattooed Hearts by Mika Jolie

Being someone’s first love is unforgettable. Being their last is immeasurable. This story completely swept me off my feet.

Quote from Tattooed Hearts: “For sale—One heart. Condition—Horrible. Asking Price—Will take anything for it. Just cut it out of my chest and end this suffering.”
